Innovation Spotlight - BeeWise

Despite the fact they underpin 30% of the world’s food supply and face unprecedented threats, bees are usually cared for using aging technologies.

BEEWISE is working to change that, with the first autonomous beehive designed to increase survival rates and yields while drastically reducing labour needs.

Enter the BeeHome: the first autonomous beehive. Solar-powered, AI enabled and built to house 24 colonies, the BeeHome automatically monitors, adjusts and responds to changing conditions within the beehive. This includes automated pest-control, harvesting and climate control. The BeeHome even uses AI to identify when colonies are preparing to swarm and prevents this by automatically changing conditions. Apiarists receive an alert when a problem requires their attention or when a container of honey is full. As a result, the BeeHome increases survival rates and yields while drastically reducing labour needs.

The Israeli startup was named by CB Insights in 2021 as one of the 100 most promising AI companies in the world.
